SSD Upgrade

At a rate of about 20 per week, the most common job we perform in store are SSD upgrades for customers. From 10 year old macbooks and slow laptops from every make and model to brand new surface laptops, we are always asked to perform an SSD upgrade on our customer’s machines.

What is an SSD?

A storage device containing non-volatile flash memory, used in place of a hard disk because of its much greater speed.

Modern hard drives use mechanical, moving parts inside their casing, parts that over time can fail. Many people turn to SSDs for their incredibly fast read and write speed, resulting in boot speeds that take only seconds. They also prefer them for their future proofed age. Flash memory isn’t as affected by a bump, shake or fall. Hard drives can suffer data loss if mishandled.

Depending on your make and model, we can often have your upgrade completed on the same day if it is dropped in before lunch time. Please see below pricing table for options.

For an additional $70 we can convert any unused CD Drive in a laptop into a second hard drive bay. The benefit a lot of our customers find from doing this is having a fresh new install of their operating system on the SSD and placing their current hard drive into the cd drive bay for additional storage.

Below is an example of speeds gained from an early 2011 macbook pro with an SSD upgrade vs. the hard drive it was manufactured with.
